MATARIKI - FIRE AND ICE FIESTA

7 - 8 June 2008

Matariki, the celebration of Maori New Year is a special feature this year in Southland with a three-performance season of a theatre show at the Civic Theatre, Invercargill. Written, directed and designed by Rima Te Wiata and Kristian Lavercombe, the fifty minute spectacular will feature fire performance, haka, wiata, drama and dance, telling the story of a young boys dream through the legends of the night sky. Previously, this show has been known as the Fire and Ice Fiesta, an annual event since 2003.

A cast of 34 will bring to life the story in a visual show for the whole family. Matariki will be performed on June 7 at 6pm and June 8 at 2pm and 6pm. Tickets are available from the ICC booking office.
